Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has ordered immediate dewatering of water-logged roads and residential areas following incessant rains lashing various parts of Kashmir since last evening.

According to an official spokesperson, the Chief Minister has asked the R&B Department, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the Mechanical Engineering Department, UEED and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to immediately press into services the requisite men and machinery to ensure speedy dewatering of water-logged areas so that there is no disruption of traffic and public movement.

The Chief Minister asked the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure round the clock vigil along the embankments of rivers and Nallahs especially in the low-lying and vulnerable areas. He said preventive measures should be taken in advance to ensure safety of life and property.

The Chief Minister said that there should be no disruption of traffic movement due to water-logging of roads and the concerned authorities must ensure that the inter and intra-state traffic moves normally.

Sayeed also called for immediate dewatering of Eidgahs and other open areas where congregational Eid prayers are to be offered on Eid-ul-Azha.

The Chief Minister said that all the concerned agencies should work in close coordination to ensure that people don’t suffer any inconvenience because of water-logging and other related issues.
