After a long dry spell rains lash plains while upper reaches in the Kashmir valley received light to moderate snowfall on Tuesday. The rainfall started from Monday night while MeT department said that weather will start improving from Wednesday afternoon.
“Valley may continue to witness rainfall till Wednesday afternoon. The intensity will decrease from Wednesday morning and Sun may come out. There will be dry weather from Wednesday till Sunday,” a MeT official told CNS.
Reports said that the upper reaches in the valley, including Amarnath cave shrine and its periphery besides Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top, Panjtarni and other heights in Pahalgam and Sinthan top received fresh light to moderate snowfall since morning. As per the reports, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and frontier district Kupwara and other hilly areas also received season’s first snowfall during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The MeT official said that temperature has come down considerably in hilly and plains due to consistent rain and snowfall. He said that Gulmarg recovered 26.6, Qazigund 25. 8, Pahalgam 19.0, Kokernag 16.4 and the frontier Kupwara district 12.0 mm rains till Tuesday morning. Srinagar, the capital city recorded 17.6 mm rain, as people in many localities complained of water logging. The overnight rainfall also hit the Eid shopping.
