The district administration of Pulwama has decided to impose restrictions under Section 144 in areas falling within a 2.5 kilometre radius of sites of any gun fights in the district to prevent civilian deaths.

“It has been made to appear to me that during encounters the people of surrounding areas do receive bullet injuries as a result of their free movement in and around the encounter places,” a media report quoted an order issued by the DC Pulwama on February 5. “In order to save the precious lives of the civilians, it is expedient to impose restrictions on their movement in and around the encounter places.”

“In exercise of powers vested in me under Section 144 Cr Pc impose restrictions so that people within a radius of 2.5 km from the encounter site shall not venture to come out  from their homes except in case of unavoidable exigencies may seek assistance from the local police,” the report reads.

The ambulances, medics and paramedics have been exempted from the restrictions.

“This order shall cease to be in force on the expiry of two months from the issuance or till further orders whichever is earlier,” it added.
