Police on Friday said that a militant killed in a gunfight with the counterinsurgent forces at Kralpora Checkpora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district was affiliated with Jaish Muhammad outfit.

A police spokesman in a statement said that from the incriminating materials recovered from the site of encounter the slain militant has been identified as a foreigner from Pakistan namely Zarar.

“The slain as per police records was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit JeM and was wanted by law for his complicity in crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities,” said the spokesman.

“According to the police records, he was part of groups involved in planning and executing attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. Several crime cases were registered against him,” he said.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes,” he added.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
