Militants and the government forces on Thursday exchanged fire in Magam forest area of Handwara town of north Kashmir’s Kupawara district.
An official said that a joint team of army’s 21 RR, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force 92 Bn launched a search operation in Sodal check Magam forest area.
He said that a loud blast followed by some gunshots were heard in the area.
He added that reportedly one militant has been killed in the area.
“Search operation is going on in the area. The cordon has been tightened,” he said.
