Militants succeeded in giving slip to a large contingent of Police, CRPF and Army in Chankhun area of Sopore, Tuesday which had cordoned off the area after an attack on SOG party killing an officer ASI Kafeel Ahmad) and injuring three constables.

After the Militant attack, forces had started operation against the hiding militants. Sources said but the militants later flee from the cordon.

They added that an operation was launched in Chankhan, with the assistance of the Army following the militant attack.

“Despite the area being cordoned off and presence of additional security, the militants managed to escape under the cover of firing,” sources said.

Besides the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police, soldiers of counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were engaged in the operation.
