Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday late night issued following statement regarding Tral gunfight saying that based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Pinglish area of Tral Awantipora, a cordon and search operation was launched today jointly by Police, CRPF and army in the area.

“As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight,” said police spokesman in a statement.

The spokesman said in the encounter, so far dead bodies of two militants have been retrieved from the site of encounter. From the incriminating materials recovered at the site of the encounter, it is understood that the militants have affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM.

“Their identities are being ascertained. Search is going on at the site of the encounter,” he said.

“Incriminating material recovered from the site of encounter includes arms and ammunition. Police has registered a case in the matter,” said the spokesman.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” a police spokesman said.
