SRINAGAR: South Kashmir Lok Sabha constituency would poll for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in three phases, the schedule announces by the Election Commission of India on Sunday suggests.

Jammu and Kashmir has six Lok Sabha constituencies – three in Kashmir, two in Jammu and one in Ladakh.

Two constituencies are going to polls in the phase one on April 11. The north Kashmir constituency comprises of the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipore. Jammu that comprises the districts of Samba, Rajouri, Poonch and Jammu will also go for polls the same day.

In the second phase on April 18, two more segments will go to polls: the central Kashmir constituency comprising the districts of Budgam, Srinagar and Ganderbal. The same day, the Udhampur segment will go for polls in all its districts – Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Reasi and Ramban.

In the third phase slated for April 23, only the Anantnag district of south Kashmir Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls. In phase four on April 29, only Kulgam district will poll for the same seat, in phase-5 on May 6, the districts of Shopian and Pulwama will cast their votes thus completing the south Kashmir seat polls.

The Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency will also go to polls in the fifth phase. Ladakh has two districts – Leh and Kargil.

This will be perhaps the only Lok Sabha election in Kashmir history when one Lok Sabah seat will have polls in three phases.
