Police on Saturday evening said that a tragedy was averted when Army detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Lagapora, Kulgam in South Kashmir.

Acting on specific information, a team of the Army’s 62 RR Rashtriya Rifles 9 RR detected a mine under the bridge at Chimber area of Lagapora in Kulgam district. “The device was later defused by Bomb Disposal Squad of Police and Army without causing any damage, thereby averting what could have been a tragedy,” a police official told a local news agency, GNS.

However, sources said that blast created panic among the local residents.
