The first meeting of the newly framed Omar Abdullah cabinet which was scheduled to be held on Thursday morning in Jammu has been postponed, sources told KNS.

“The meeting was scheduled to be held at 11 am on Thursday and has been postponed now”, said a minister in the cabinet adding “no fresh date for the meeting has been communicated as yet”. However, he said the reasons for the postponement were not known to him.

Meanwhile, most of the minister of the cabinet, who took oath yesterday at the Rajbhawan here, took charge of their respective ministries on Wednesday. “Yes, all the ministers have joined offices today”, the minister added.

The newly inducted Ministers assumed charge of their allotted ministries in the Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday.

The Ministers who took over their responsibilities included Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Planning and Development, Labour and Employment, Ajay Sadhotra, Minister for  Tourism, Gh. Ahmed Mir, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs , Mir Saif-ullaha, Minister of State  Science & Information Technology (Independent charge), Medical Education, School Education, Youth Services and Sports, Feroz Khan and Minister of State  Animal & Sheep Husbandry (Independent charge) PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control, Horticulture, Agriculture and Floriculture, Nazir Gurezi. Meanwhile, MoS Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo could not join his office on account of some domestic engagements, an official spokesman said.

The new Ministers also interacted with the officers and officials of their respective departments and had a detailed description about the functioning of the same.
