Abdul Ghani Mir took over charge as Inspector General of Police Kashmir zone today. Mir is an IPS officer of 1994 batch originally from Bihar Cadre.

According to an official spokesman, before being posted as IGP, Kashmir he has held many important field and key postings in the state of Bihar, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

He has headed seven Districts of Bihar and Jharkhand including Jehanabad, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur. He came to J&K state in the year 2005 and was posted as SSP Anantnag. After promotion, he was posted as DIG Armed, DIG Baramulla, DIG CID and DIG Central Kashmir Range, Srinagar.  After promotion as IGP, he headed the Crime Branch of the state before being posted as IGP Kashmir Zone.
