Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that people of Kashmir are being subjected to all kinds of “state oppression” and curbs and even religious places are being targeted.

Addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid Srinagar over phone, since he continues to be under house arrest, Mirwaiz said: “In spite of allowing the prayers after eight weeks in the Jamia, Government deployed forces to ensure no major gathering takes place in the mosque.”

Condemning the killing of yet another civilian Ghulam Mohiudin Bhat of Arwani by the forces, and paying tributes to Yawar Nisar, Mirwaiz said each day we lose civilians and our youth to the forces, as if they are not human beings and there is no value to their life.

Mirwaiz said, “Another front has been opened by the Indian state through its investigative agencies and media to malign the people’s movement, defame the leadership and demoralize the people. He said even religious and educational institutions that hold a special reverence and respect for the people are being targeted by the so-called NIA of India.”

The chief cleric said such tactics employed by the Government of India to defame the genuine sentiment in Kashmir and to build pressure on the pro-freedom leadership has failed in the past and is destined to taste defeat again.

He said despite such aggressive stance adopted by New Delhi, the entire Kashmiri nation is committed to its goal of seeking dignified resolution of Kashmir issue. “Kashmiris have given tremendous sacrifices for this cause for the last seven decades and our struggle is based on justice and democratic principles. I urge people to remain steadfast and show forbearance at this critical juncture in our political struggle.”

Mirwaiz said it is extremely sad that people of Kashmir have lost the right to life because they are demanding the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, which is essentially a humanitarian problem and can be resolved through political means.

Meanwhile a spokesman of Hurriyat (m) denounced the continuous house arrest of Mirwaiz. The spokesman said that on the basis of military might the ruling regime has muzzled the political, religious and social rights of resistance leaders.
