Hurriyat Conference (m) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq through a recorded video addressed the panel discussion titled “Kashmir -breaking the impasse” which was part of the two day India Conference held at the Harvard Kennedy School for Business and Government on February 12 2017, attended by a distinguished audience and large number of students, a statement issued by Hurriyat (m) reads.

As Mirwaiz’s passport stands impounded he addressed the gathering through a video message, the statement said.

“Addressing the gathering Mirwaiz presented the Kashmir conflict in its historical and current context and communicated the tremendous pain and suffering that the people of Kashmir are going through at the hands of a hostile and authoritarian state which refuses to acknowledge and resolve the dispute as per its commitments made to them before the world and their political aspirations. Instead it resorts to most brutal and inhuman repression to crush the people’s political aspirations,” read the statement.

Mirwaiz said that the most simple and democratic way to resolve the conflict is through the promised referendum. He said engagement and dialogue among the parties to the dispute, India Pakistan and people of J&K, could provide the alternative way of resolution provided there is sincerity to find a solution.

Mirwaiz’s address was the longest and very well received by the audience present, the statement concluded.
