SRINAGAR

Condemning the aggression on the “resistance leadership” of Kashmir by the government, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Chairperson, Umar Farooq Friday said, by using force and pressure tactics and by placing “resistance leadership” under house confinement or in detention, can neither suppress the Kashmir struggle nor keep the world in dark about “human rights violations” being committed in Kashmir.

Mirwaiz, who is under house arrest for the past 11 days was again stopped from addressing the Friday congregational gathering at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar for the second consecutive Friday said, his residence had practically been converted into a jail which amply proved the hallow claims of the government about the democracy and the existence of the freedom of expression of the people.

APHC (m) Chairperson said he was being stopped from performing his religious obligations by putting him under house confinement.

He said even there were curbs placed on the movement of people by the deployment of forces personnel in large numbers outside the Jamia Masjid and other roads leading to the historic mosque. “Government of India with its Right Royal Charlies and its forces was trying its best to break the resolve and will of the people and resistance leadership of Kashmir but failed miserably during the past seven decades.”

Mirwaiz said by adopting such tactics, nothing is going to change on the ground in Kashmir or in the subcontinent as the key to peace and stability of the region was in the resolution of Kashmir issue.

He said as long as Kashmir issue remains unresolved, the situation in subcontinent would never change for good.

Meanwhile, the Imam Hai, during the Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Majid condemned the continuous house confinement of Umar Farooq and termed the curbs placed on his religious activities by the government as most unfortunate.

He said that the aggressive attitude and curbs on Mirwaiz’s religious freedom was aimed at muzzling the voice raised from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid for the protection of the genuine rights of the people and against “human rights violations”.

He said, however, these tactics of the government had failed in the past and would fail in future as well.

On the occasion, people raised slogans against the house confinement of Mirwaiz.
