Terming October 27 as “Black Day in Kashmir’s history”, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday called upon the people of Jammu & Kashmir to observe a complete shutdown on this day and once again reiterate their stand and send a clear message that their peaceful struggle for the achievement of their basic right – the Right to Self Determination – will continue till the Kashmir issue is not resolved in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
According to an amalgam statement, Mirwaiz who is under continuous house arrest for past 5 days said, “on October 27 in 1947, India under a well-planned conspiracy landed its armed troops in Kashmir and since then continues to control Kashmir by use of brute force and military might, instilling fear among the people, subjugating them and usurping all their rights.”
He said, “India which prides itself on being the world’s biggest democracy knows very well that Kashmir is an issue of the permanent resolution of political dispensation of more than one crore people living in fear and uncertainty for the past more than 60 years , has all along adopted a militaristic approach to settle it, in fact to crush it. But India needs to understand that people’s movements for gaining their fundamental rights can never be suppressed by military might and use of force and world history and contemporary times are witness to it.”
Mirwaiz demanded that it is high time for the government of India to start the process of demilitarization and revoke all draconian and black laws including PSA and AFSPA and Disturbed Areas Act.
The chief cleric also called upon the international community to come forward and play its role in addressing this issue. He reminded the international community that Kashmir continues to be the World’s largest militarized zone, and highest battle ground with world’s highest number of military bases in any one place
