SRINAGAR: Marking the Youm-e-Wisal (death anniversary) of Hazrat Fatima Al-Zahra (RA), the revered daughter of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered a sermon at the Khanqah of Naqshband Sb in Khwaja Bazaar today, focusing on the dignity and rights Islam grants to women.

Speaking at the gathering, Mirwaiz reflected on the legacy of Hazrat Fatima (RA), describing her as a symbol of faith, strength, and virtue. He emphasised that Islam elevated the status of women, granting them rights that were unprecedented at the time—including the right to education, inheritance, choice in marriage, and personal identity.

However, Mirwaiz lamented that despite these teachings, many women today continue to face discrimination. He pointed out that denial of inheritance rights, gender bias at birth, and domestic violence persist in society, despite Islam’s clear emphasis on justice and respect for women. Quoting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he said, “The best of you are those who are best to their wives.”

Stressing the need for social reform, Mirwaiz urged people to honour Hazrat Fatima’s (RA) legacy by ensuring women receive their rightful dignity and respect. “It is time to reflect and change our attitudes,” he said, calling on society to end oppression and uphold the true teachings of Islam.

Concluding his sermon, Mirwaiz prayed for guidance and justice, urging people to uphold the values of fairness and compassion that Hazrat Fatima (RA) embodied.
