Mirwaiz Leaves for Delhi to Meet Iranian President Pezeshkian

   

SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Maulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq left for New Delhi on Friday to attend a special interaction with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, who is in India for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit.

According to a statement issued by the office of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Mirwaiz was invited by Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, to attend the programme involving religious leaders, scholars, intellectuals and other distinguished personalities.

The interaction is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on Friday and will be followed by a dinner hosted by the Iranian Embassy.

Pezeshkian is visiting India to participate in the BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled for September 12 and 13. The visit is his first to India since becoming President of Iran.

The statement said the meeting with the Iranian President is being hosted by the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India and will bring together representatives from religious and intellectual circles.
