Ahead of the Hurriyat conference (M) delegation visit to Pakistan, chairman of the amalgam Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday convened a meeting of intellectuals, civil society members, traders, educationist and lawyers from south Kashmir to draw a broad consensus on various aspects of Kashmir issue.
The participants in the meeting, who put their views and suggestions before the Hurriyat leadership, have come from Islamabad, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama and other areas of south Kashmir.
Addressing the people, Mirwaiz said their basic aim of Pakistan visit was to find the permanent solution of Kashmir issue. He said the constitutional frame work of Hurriyat has explained the solution to the dispute. But, he said it was the need of the hour to formulate a clear solid strategy to address the Kashmir in the context of changing political situation of the world. He said the prime reason for calling the meeting of the people belonging to different shades of society was to get benefitted from their progressive thinking and get their suggestion to chalk out the future course to effectively address the K issue.
Mirwaiz said Hurriyat believes that Kashmiris are prime party to the dispute. Hence, he said inclusion of Kashmiris in any negotiations between India and Pakistan should be treated as prime stakeholder to the dispute. He said many issues have cropped up in connection with Kashmir issue, and it has thus become important to talk upon those issues as well.
Mirwaiz said that the hurriyat wants the travel between the two Kashmir’s should be made easy by replacing the existing permit system with the state subject as a travel document. Apart from this, he said the leadership of both the parts of Kashmiri should be allowed to sit at one place so as to allow them to exchange their views and opinions
over different issues related to Kashmir.
Mirwaiz said the 2008 and 2010 peaceful revolutions have immensely contributed towards highlighting the Kashmir issue on international level. He said the revolutions have made it clear to the world that the movement of right to liberation belongs to Kashmiri people and they are the ones who are leading this movement.
He said that he feels that the Kashmiri leadership should get united and express solidarity with each other. Like other freedom struggles, he said that there can be difference on the working approach of the pro-resistance leadership, but their destination was same- liberation of Jammu and Kashmir.
In times of rapidly changing politics, Mirwaiz said the sensitivity and liberation struggle of Kashmir issue can’t be kept hostage on the name of unity slogan in view of the improving relation between India and Pakistan.
During their visit to Pakistan, Mirwaiz said that they would invite the Prime Minsiter’s of India and Pakistan to come to Kashmir and take concrete steps which would lead to the solution of decades old K dispute.
On the occasion, hurriyat leaders including senior party leader, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat addressed the particpants. He said that the hurriyat is a representative character of people and it would continue to present emotions and aspirations of Kashmiri people on International forums.
