The authorities on Friday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence ahead of Burhan Wani’s death anniversary.
Taking to social networking site Twitter Mirwaiz wrote: “Restrictions imposed in Downtown Srinagar, #JamaMasjid under siege, a crackdown on #Hurriyat leadership.Yasin arrested,i am placed under #HouseArrest, Geelani Sb counties to be under #HouseDetention.Hurriyat activists houses raided, scores of youth picked up & detained by authorities!”
“A police party arrived at Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence today early in the morning and put him under house confinement,” said a spokesman.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik has called for a valley-wide shutdown on July 8.
