Hurriyat (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday released “Human Rights Report 2016”, prepared by the human rights division of the amalgam.

According to the report, the number of killings of civilians, militants and armed forces’ personnel were higher this year compared to 2015.

The report says that the summer of 2016 “will go into the history of Kashmir as a season of ‘Epidemic of Dead Eyes’ due to the high magnitude of the havoc created by pellet guns”.

The report lays a special focus on the killings and injuries of civilians post the July 8 killing of young militant commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with government forces in south Kashmir.

Referring to curfews, media gag and blinding of protesters due to pellets, it says that human sufferings touched new heights during this year and “this was a horrifying scenario which the valley has not seen since 1989”.
