SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the 20-point peace plan unveiled by United States President Donald Trump, which seeks to end the ongoing war in Gaza.

In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said that while the initiative appears to be a step towards halting the conflict and what he described as the “genocide of Palestinians,” a genuine solution must go beyond ceasefire.
“People of Palestine need a fair resolution that ends occupation and decades of suffering. Let us hope it leads to justice, dignity, and freedom of the Palestinian people,” he wrote.
The peace plan, announced in Washington and immediately accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is currently under review by Hamas through Egyptian and Qatari mediators. It proposes staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, prisoner exchanges, humanitarian aid, and the creation of an international stabilisation force.
