Srinagar: The Shopian youth against whose ‘disappearance’ the area observed shutdown for four consecutive days is finally traced as he has joined militant ranks.

Zubair Ahmad Turray, in a video message of 05:05 minutes, announced his joining on Sunday evening citing reasons of slavery and highhandedness of forces.

Wearing a military uniform with cap, Zubair’s front table has guns as well as grenades.

Starting with Quranic verses, Zubair talks about his reason of joining militancy as being “subjugated to tyranny.” “The slavery was the reason.”

Introducing himself as Zubair Ahmad Turray son of Bashir Ahmad Turray, Zubair said “he had no way around than to escape and take this route.” “My journey has been very painful,” he reveals.

“I spent last four years in jail and was slapped with eight PSA’s,” he said and added “as I approached high court and my PSA was quashed, I was not released. Instead I was facing illegal detention since three months,” Zubair is heard saying in video clip.

A fluent speaker, Zubair speaks about his father’s struggle to get him released, “every effort of my father to get me released failed.”

He in his message promised to take mission forward and appeals people to support the “freedom movement”

Lauding the role of people of his district, he thanked them for their “pro-freedom” stance. In his message to his father, Zubair appeals “don’t worry for him.”

According to reports, Zubair was last arrested in 2014 on stone pelting charges and was slapped with PSA.

With continuous shutdown in the area to know about the whereabouts , police maintained that Zubair escaped from police station Keegam on May 1.
