Police on Sunday said that two suspects have been arrested over the murder of a youth who was missing from his home in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The police spokesman said that police began an investigation following a written complaint by Abdul Majeed Teeli of Rishipora, Khaipora Bala in which he said that his 25-year-old son Mehraj-ud-Din was missing since August 24.

“Accordingly a missing report was diarized in Police Station Tangmarg and the search was undertaken. Police made all-out efforts to trace the missing person but he couldn’t be found anywhere. Meanwhile, working on some clues, police rounded up some suspects and began their sustained questioning,” he said.

The spokesman said that two suspects – Irshad Ahmed Wani son of Ghulam Mohidin and Imtiyaz Ahmed Wani son of  Ghulam Rasool, both residents of village Rishipora Khaipora Bala – were detained. “After prolonged questioning, the duo revealed that they murdered the missing person Mehrajuddin Teli on the same day he had apparently gone missing and later buried his dead body in Budar Nallah at some distance from their native village.”

“Later body of the murdered youth was disinterred by a team of medical and forensic experts in presence of a Magistrate. Subsequently, case FIR No. 75/2018 U/S 302 RPC was registered in Police Station Tangmarg. The body will be handed over to the legal heirs after completion of necessary Medico-legal formalities.”

Further investigation into the matter is going on.
