SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir MLA from Budgam, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, on Friday urged Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary to intervene in the delay in completion of several water supply schemes in Budgam constituency and ensure their early commissioning.
Mehdi raised the issue during a meeting with the Union Minister in New Delhi, where he apprised him of the overall water supply situation in the constituency and conveyed concerns among residents over the prolonged delay in completing key schemes.
The schemes highlighted during the meeting included Arath-Churpora Water Supply Scheme, Chatbug-Wadwan WSS, Hurr-Zoorigund WSS, Ichgam WSS, Paller-Lakripora WSS, Ghariand Khurd WSS and Humhama WSS.
Mehdi urged the Union Minister to personally intervene to expedite the completion of the schemes so that residents of Budgam can receive safe and uninterrupted drinking water.
He also raised the issue of acute water scarcity in Nowgam Sumbal in Bandipora district, seeking intervention to ensure an adequate and reliable water supply to the area.
The MLA further drew attention to pending payments to contractors running into hundreds of crores of rupees, urging that the outstanding liabilities be cleared without further delay.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, Choudhary assured Mehdi that he would examine the issues raised and extend all possible assistance in addressing the concerns related to water supply.
The meeting focused on delays in water infrastructure, drinking water shortages and outstanding contractor liabilities associated with water supply works in the region.
