The department of Legal Metrology which is also implementing the provisions of J&K Consumer Protection   Act, 1987 on Friday booked a renowned Mobile Company namely Spice Mobile India  Pvt. Ltd for telecasting an advertisement on the Star Gold Channel showing the dimensions of the screen of Mobile set in non-metric unit of Inches instead of metric units of centimetres thereby violating provisions of Legal Metrology Act.

Under the Act every advertisement should be in metric units.

According to a communiqué from Legal Metrology Department, it has been observed that multinational companies are using print and electronic media to promote their business by luring the gullible Consumers by issuing misleading advertisements.

Assistant Controller, of the department Mohammad  Muzaffar  Wani today booked Spice Mobile India  Pvt. Ltd.

The notice was served to the Company and the Company confessed the lapse and pleaded for composition of the challan case.  A penal sum of Rs 25000/- was slapped on the company.

The Department of Legal Metrology has also issued Legal notices to several herbal companies for carrying misleading advertisements of creams, face- washes, and energy-capsules through local dailies of the valley. The Herbal Companies claiming immediate cure for black-spots of skin, instant energy by capsules etc. The consumers are informed to be vigilant and be not fleeced by misleading advertisements.
