Jamat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday termed the Nawaz-Modi meeting a good beginning but stressed that all such meetings can prove futile unless the resolution of Kashmir issue is discussed.

Talking to KNS, Ameer-e-Jamaat, Mohammad Abdullah Wani said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invite to all SAARC heads especially Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to attend his swearing-in ceremony was a good diplomatic signal  from Modi. “Kashmir being a core issue which needs to be resolved should be focus of any meeting between the head of India and Pakistan or otherwise discussing trade, travel and other related issues only will prove a futile exercise,” Wani observed.

The Ameer-e-Jamaat hoped that Modi led government with majority in the Parliament and Nawaz Sharif’s stable government in Pakistan provide a golden opportunity to resolve Kashmir. “I think Kashmir can never witness a cordial and conducive political atmosphere which is prevailing at present. The two sides India and Pakistan should seize this opportunity and resolve this long pending political issue in the region,” Wani remarked, adding that the meeting between Modi-Nawaz can be a good omen for Kashmiri people.
