In a statement issued to press from here he said while Omar’s release is a welcome step, the government must without any delay release all political leaders and others who were detained after the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

“There was no justification to keep Omar Abdullah and other leaders under detention. The release was long overdue,” he said.

The JKPCC Vice President said that there was a crisis situation not only in Kashmir but across the world due to the spread of deadly coronavirus disease. “Under these circumstances, the government must without any delay release all the detainees who are languishing in jails within J&K and outside,” Monga demanded.

The Congress leader said that no normalcy was possible in Kashmir without the restoration of the political process.

“This calls for the release of all detained leaders and engagement with them. Government of India’s approach towards J&K must be people-centric and guided by a resolute commitment to the country’s diversity and religious pluralism,” he said.
