Days after police claim that it busted a network of militants in Sopore and arrested of five persons, the family members of one of the arrested alleged militant Monday said that “he is innocent and implicated in a false case”.

Police recently claimed that it arrested five militants who were planning to carry out strikes in the run up to India’s Republic Day and they identified the arrested persons as Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, alias Umar, of Sopore, Danish Gaffar Gojri, alias Kalimullah, from Drangbal in Baramulla, Javid Ahmad Dar from Khanpora in Baramulla and Mohammad Sameer Kandoo, alias Sameer Baba, from Soura in Srinagar.

Fozia Begum, mother of Javiad Ahmed Dar told CNS that her son is “not affiliated with any militant organization”. “He was working as a conductor with an LP truck (21175E). My son never went missing from his home and he was taking care of his family affairs after the death of his father Muhammad Akbar Dar,” she said.

She said that all but 15 days ago, her son received a call from a police officer who asked him to report at police station Sopore. “My son was not arrested but himself presented before the police after he was asked to report at police station. He is not a militant. The elders of the village have already talked to police and they have assured us that Javaid will be released after January 26 function will be over,” she said.

Pertinently Police had said that Javaid Ahmed Dar of Khanpora Baramulla joined the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in September last year.
