Senior separatist leader and Chairperson Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah Saturday termed derailing of ‘Sopore Chalo’ by administration as “unconstitutional”.

A party statement said this afternoon quoting Shah said, “by putting blanket ban on program and imposing undue restrictions on people’s movement on Friday, the present government exposed its own tall claims which it had made before coming to power.”

“It is extremely shameful that the same party which used to express fake sympathies with victims of oppression and shed crocodile tears during previous regime is now following the footsteps of its predecessors,” he said.

All major separatists groups had called a joint program for ‘Sopore March’ to sympathize with the families of slain civilians killed in North Kashmir town in last fortnight.

“In fact, the current regime surpassed its predecessors in inflicting tyranny and brutality in such a short period of time,” the statement continued adding, “they exposed themselves before people by their activities.”

Shah slammed authorities over ‘preventing’ people from offering Friday prayers in Masjids in the month of Ramadan.

“The reality is that these rulers as usual dance to the tunes of New Delhi and they feel no shame in doing so,” he alleged.

The DFP Chairman also condemned the ongoing ‘arrest spree’ in various parts of valley particularly in Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara, Langate and Islamabad and said the administration is resorting to “political vengeance”.
