Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led PDP-BJP government has booked 20 persons under Public Safety Act (PSA) since March 2015 – when it over took the state.
While giving the description break-up, the government said among the total PSA detainees include 2 militants, 3 separatists, 3 stone pelters, 7 OGWs and 5 habitual criminals.
The government was replying to the question raised by NC MLC, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone. The senior minister AR Veeri while replying on behalf of government said the present dispensation has quashed 21 PSAs—2 separatists, 3 stone pelters, 9 OGW, 4 habitual criminals and 3 timber smugglers—since March 2015.
“Under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1998, nine drug peddlers have been booked under PSA,” the government said.
However the Qaiser Jamsheed Lone alleged that government hasn’t revealed actual number of persons booked under PSA in the state. “Govt must not mislead the house,” he said. “No details have been given on the number of separatists placed under house arrest by the government.”
Veeri while replying said, “Mufti Sayeed-led Govt doesn’t believe in jails or putting people under house arrests. It is just that government takes such steps for maintaining law and order.”
