All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) executive member and chairpersons of his Muslim Conference faction, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Saturday visited Fairview Residence at Gupkar Road to offer condolence to the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on the demise of her father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Sources told KNS that the former united APHC chairperson made an emotional speech and praised Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

“Despite political and ideological differences, Mufti sahab and I had full respect and regard for each other. We studied together in Aligarh Muslim University in two different subjects. I studied Persian and Mufti sahab Arabic. Mufti sahab was for peace and friendship between Indian and Pakistan. And he played a key role in his life to promote friendly relations between these two hostile countries,” Prof Bhat was quoted by sources as saying in his speech.

Praising late CM, Bhat said that Mufti’s role cannot be ignored for “bringing peace in the state”. “Cross LoC trade routes opened through Muzaffarabad during his time as chief minister. India and Pakistan started CBMs on Kashmir,” he said.

“Though Mufti sahab sowed the seeds of peace and normalcy in the state, but he could not live to see its flowers blossom fully,” the Hurriyat (m) executive member said.

Prof Bhat said that both India and Pakistan should resolve the Kashmir dispute and take Kashmiris on-board in the process.

He said, “humanity does not stop any person from paying and visiting bereaved families to offer condolences and pray for their peace.”
