PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s cavalcade was among hundreds of vehicles stuck in the stone pelting of protesting people at Hirpora, Shopian on Mughal road Monday.

The villagers had come on the Mughal road to protest against the non availability of power from last two months. “The village is without power supply from last two months as the transformer which burnt months back was not replaced till tomorrow,” a local resident said adding “Finally the transformer was installed a day before but a few hours after it got damaged again.”

The locals pelted stones on police and vehicles on the Mughal road resulting in the chaos in the area. “Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was on way to Peer Galli at the time of protest and his cavalcade also got stuck in the stone pelting,” local sources said.

However, Mufti’s cavalcade managed to leave the spot without any damage, they added.

As hundreds of vehicles from both the sides of the historical Mughal road got stranded police swung into action and used tear smoke shells and batons to disperse the protesters.

Six protesters including two women were injured in the police action, sources said.
