Two militants were killed in an 18-hour long gunfight at Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.

Official sources said that the two holed up militants including a Top Lashkar commander Mehmood Bai  and a local militant Javaid Ahmad Matoo got killed in Krankshiven colony in Sopore.

“Today morning police had brought mother and father of the local militant Javaid Ahmad Matoo who also was holed up asking him for surrender before the forces”, sources said.

The mother of the holed up militant was crying outside the house “Javida lejiya Mouj Karta Surrender” but her militant son declined his mother’s offer.

A joint team of the Indian Army posted in the area along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, acted on a specific information, had cordoning off the Krankshavan Colony in the Sopore town around 5.15pm on Sunday.

Army’s 52 RR, 22 RR, CRPF and SOG were part of the operation against the holed up militants in Krankshiven colony.
