SRINAGAR: Mughal Road reopened for the movement of vehicles on Monday after remaining closed for more than six days.

An alternative link road connecting the districts of Poonch and Rajouri with the rest of the Union Territory through the Shopian District, Mughal Road was closed for vehicular movement after the incessant rains triggered landslides on the road.

Last week on May 31st, incessant rains resulted in landslides near the Rata Chamb area, where trees and stones from the hill nearby fell on the road, resulting in the blockade of the road and closure of traffic movement.

Deputy Commissioner Shopian Fazl ul Haseeb said that the road remains open throughout the year, “However, it is just when there are some incidents like landslides, we have to close it, otherwise it is continuously open,” he said.

Adding further he said, “As of now the road is open for vehicular movement, but we have to check the situation one more time for further discourse.”

DIG traffic Kashmir Javid Ahmed Koul said, “The clearance work on the road started on Monday and now it is open for traffic movement.”

He added that the basic problem frequented at Mughal Road is that there are no repairing facilities for vehicles that develop any malfunction. “If a truck breaks down, there are no facilities to fix it on the road. Sometimes we have to get cranes to get them to repaired affecting the overall traffic on the stretch,” he said.
