To finalize the arrangements for the ensuing Muharram, a meeting of officers with Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah in chair was held here Wednesday.

As per a statement the representatives of Shia community from different parts of the district also participated in the meeting.

Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of PDD to install street lights in Shia dominated areas, for which Rs. 32 lakh shall be expended while for renovation and repairs of link roads and foot paths. Rs 25 lakh shall be utilized in the areas including Zadibal, Gund Hassibhat, Ali Park, Khushipora, Bemina, Chattabal, Hassanabad.

It was given out that adequate stocks of essentialities which include 4000 quintals of rice, 2700 quintals of sugar, atta, k.oil and LPG have been kept available in Shia dominated area of the Srinagar district. About 5000 quintals of firewood have also been dumped in these areas.

The Deputy Commissioner has asked officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure better sanitation and cleanliness in these areas.

It was given out that a Control Room would also be established in Zadibal where officers of line departments monitor the availability of basic amenities. The Health department will also set up medical camps while SRTC has been asked for making better transportation facilities during Muharram days.
