SRINAGAR: Multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place across Kashmir ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir VK Birdi said on Tuesday.
Birdi said security measures were being implemented at the main venues as well as across Srinagar city and all districts of the Valley.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters during a visit to Balidan Stambh at Lal Chowk, where he reviewed preparations for the Independence Day programme.
The IGP said preparations for the main function in Srinagar were underway, including full-dress rehearsals and other arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
Asked about the recent terror attacks in South Kashmir and the progress of investigations, Birdi said the matter remained under investigation and declined to disclose further details.
He said information would be shared when it was appropriate to do so.
Birdi also appealed to people to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in large numbers, describing the event as a public function.
