Muzaffarabard Youth Held in Uri After Crossing Over to Meet Girlfriend

   

SRINAGAR: A resident of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) who allegedly crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector to meet his girlfriend was apprehended by the Army, even as security forces separately foiled an alleged exfiltration attempt involving three persons from Sopore.

Officials said the lover, identified as Zeeshan Mir of Muzaffarabad, was intercepted by Army troops in the Silikote area of Uri after he crossed into this side of Kashmir. During questioning, Mir reportedly told security agencies that he had crossed the LoC to meet his girlfriend in Tileai village of Uri.

The woman and Mir are presently being questioned by security agencies, officials said, adding that further details were awaited.

In a separate incident, Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended three persons who were allegedly attempting to exfiltrate into PoJK through the Hathlanga-Nambla axis in Uri during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The trio, all residents of Sopore in Baramulla district, were identified as Adil Hussain Dar, Ishfaq Ahmad and Jaffar Ahmad. Officials said Dar was a suspended Territorial Army personnel.

According to officials, the arrests were made during a joint search operation launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs.

In a statement posted on X, the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said two individuals from Sopore and their guide were intercepted by alert troops while attempting to exfiltrate through the Uri sector.

Sources said the three were allegedly in contact with handlers based in PoJK. They are currently in custody and are being questioned by security agencies.

Security along the LoC has been intensified amid heightened vigilance against infiltration, exfiltration and cross-border movement, officials said.
