Panic has gripped a village of Teetwal in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district where a mysterious disease has claimed five lives so far since July 10.
Five people including two women from Tad village of Teetwal have died after falling ill due to the mysterious disease. The five include Taja begum (55) wife of Abdul Hamid Mughal, Zohra Begum (50), wife of Muhammad Ismail, Ghulam Mustafa (50), son of Muhammad Aalam, Qazi Khushal (40), son of Abdul Rouf and Abdul Hamid (50) son of Firdous Qureshi.
Locals said that the deceased person complained of pain in chest and head and were admitted in hospital but all of them expired. Locals believe that deaths are occurring due to outbreak of some water-borne disease.
Besides, five more persons have fell ill and are currently admitted in hospitals. They include Bilquessa, wife of Shabir Ahmad Mughal, Khadija, wife of Mumtaz, Muhammad Rafiq, son of Darya Muhammad, Safoora Begum, wife of Muhammad Aarif Mughal and Ruksa Begum, wife of Imtiyaz Ahmad Mughal.
Bilquesa is critically ill and has been shifted to SKIMS Soura. While as the other ill persons are currently admitted at sub-district hospital Tanghdar.
Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Tanghdar, Dr Muhammad Yousuf, said that it seems the disease is not water-borne. “As per complaints, it doesn’t seem a water-bone disease but still we are ascertaining what actually is causing deaths,” he said.
The BMO said that there is shortage of staff in Tanghdar sub-district hospital and he along with paramedics is single handedly managing the things. “I appeal government to depute the doctors as locals are caught in panic,” he said. (GNS)
