National Conference Friday said that the Kashmir Issue was the most important issue to be talked about and resolved by New Delhi and Islamabad and should hence be the focus of any dialog between the two neighbors. While welcoming the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the sidelines of the SCO Summit at Ufa, Russia, NC said that the party hoped that this gesture would pave way for a sustained dialog between New Delhi and Islamabad.

“Kashmir is the most important issued and needs to be resolved by India and Pakistan by taking all stakeholders with the State on-board. A dialogue process between India and Pakistan should focus on Kashmir. There should be no ambiguity about this. While we wholeheartedly welcome the meeting of the two Prime Ministers in Russia, we hope such gestures translate into a productive, comprehensive dialog process,” the NC statement said.

“This is a good step but for now it’s just one step in the right direction. We have seen how such gestures are wasted when knee-jerk reactions and pandering to rigid voices and constituencies results in a diplomatic stalemate. We sincerely hope that doesn’t happen this time around and that both countries realize what is at stake and trust each other enough to usher into a sustained phase of dialog and resolution,” the statement added.
