One Border Security Forces (BSF), Personnel, who was critically injured in the attack of militants Thursday morning, in Nowgam Srinagar, succumbed in the army hospital Badmi Bagh cantonment.

Three BSF troopers were injured in the attack when suspected militants fired at their vehicle in Gulshan Nagar, Nawgam, a city outskirts area. The injured had been identified as Krishne Kalita, Hamsingh and Vijay Saqia of 8th battalion BSF. “Krishne Kaita, belt No. 94007147, later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital,” a BSF official confirmed Kashmir Life. Doctors had earlier described the condition of Krishne Kant as critical.

Sources said that the vehicle which came under the attack of suspected militants was coming from north Kashmir’s Baramulla town to Panthachowk camp of the BSF. “When it reached near Gulshan Nagar on the bypass road, militants fired upon it injuring three personnel,” the official said.

This is the second militant attack on forces in ten days time in Srinagar, the summer capital city of Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on March 13, a Fidayeen squad attacked Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers in Bemina area of the city. Five CRPF troopers and two attacking fidayeen were killed in the incident.

The March 13, attack was the first in Srinagar in three years.

Police Version

At about 0730 hours on Thursday, unidentified militants fired upon BSF vehicle bearing registration number JK05/7615 of 8th Bn. A-Coy at Methain Bypass, Srinagar. Two constables namely Hem Singh No. 95455235 and Krishen Kalita No. 94007147 got injured. Both the injured were shifted to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar for treatment, where Ct. Krishen Kalita succumbed his injures. A case has been registered in this regard and investigation taken up.
