SRINAGAR

Senior separatist leader and National Front Chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan was today released after three and a half months of detention.

Earlier in the day the Passenger Tax Court Srinagar had ordered SSP Srinagar to take Nayeem Ahmad Khan to his custody.

Since last three days the argument was going on in the Passenger Tax Court about a case against Nayeem Ahmad Khan and his lodgment.

The councils of Khan Advocate Mustaq Ahmad Dar, Advocate Bashir Sidiqi and Advocate Bashir Ahmad Bhat argued that Khan can’t be shifted to outside valley because PSA against him has been quashed and bail for the case registered under FIR No.72/2011 has been already sought. They said case stands registered in Police station Karan Nagar.

The court accepted the argument and directed SSP Srinagar to take Nayeem Ahmad Khan into his custody.

Later, Khan was released from police station Kothi Bagh.

Pertinently Khan was arrested on February 8 in connection with case of 2000. He was detained in central jail Srinagar for some time before shifting to Kot Bhalwal jail Jammu under Public Safety Act (PSA). The PSA was quashed by the state high court two days earlier.
