SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Tuesday announced that the Namaz-e-Janazah of its Additional General Secretary, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, will be offered at 8:00 pm at the Nedous Residence, near MLA Hostel on M.A. Road, Srinagar.
The party shared the funeral schedule in a post on X following the demise of the veteran leader earlier in the day after a prolonged illness. Dr Kamal had been undergoing treatment at Paras Hospital in Srinagar, where he breathed his last at around 5 pm.
Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal was one of the National Conference’s senior-most leaders and served as the party’s Additional General Secretary. He was the son of National Conference founder and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, younger brother of Dr Farooq Abdullah, and uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
A prominent political figure for decades, Dr Kamal served as a Cabinet Minister in the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir government and represented the Gulmarg constituency. Known for his outspoken views and unwavering loyalty to the National Conference, he remained an influential voice in Jammu and Kashmir politics throughout his public life.
Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid an emotional tribute to his uncle, saying he had been unwell for several months and his condition had deteriorated over the past four days. He praised the doctors and hospital staff for their efforts and prayed for the departed leader to attain the highest place in Jannat.
Leaders from across the political spectrum, party workers and supporters have expressed grief over Dr Kamal’s passing, describing it as a significant loss to the National Conference and the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir
