KL Report

SRINAGAR

Day after ‘controversial’ former Army Chief Gen. V.K Singh hailed Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir for being a true ‘nationalist,’ National Conference (NC) Monday asked Gen. Singh to stop categorizing Kashmiris and said no one in the state needed a certificate of loyalty from the ‘tainted’ General.  The party said that the revelations surfaced in the media regarding Gen. Singh’s role were very serious and need to be dealt seriously as it could dent the faith of people in the democratic system of the state.

Former Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh had on Sunday said that Mir was the true ‘nationalist’ and talking against him would be taking against “God”.

“This is not an ordinary report, it has been prepared by Defense Ministry, therefore can’t be taken lightly. We have to go deep into it.” Senior National Conference leader and Parliament Member Dr. Mehboob Beg told KNS. He said army has no role in JK polity and should be kept out of it.

“Gen, Singh had no business to keep an eye on what Chief Minster and his cabinet colleagues were doing.” Chief Minster has taken the matter very seriously, as we believe that army has no role in the politics of the state.

“Even Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that if the report was true, this is very serious issue.” said Beg. He while lashing out at Gen. Singh said that the former Army Chief has set a very dangerous trend which can have even dangerous implications and repercussions.

Beg  also did not rule out  the involvement of more state based politicians in the ‘nexus’ and said the matter needs to be probed with ultra care and caution so that the guilty are punished as per law.

“We can’t rule of the possibility of some other politicians having been involved in the nexus.” Beg said in reply to a question. He also asked New Delhi to probe the matter seriously so that the faith of people in democratic set up in the state does not erode further.

“This revelation has very serious implications. If voter loses faith in ballet, where would you go?” asked the NC parliamentarian.

He however said that drawing conclusions as of now would be pre mature as the mater needs to be investigated properly. Regarding the ‘involvement’ of Agriculture Minster Ghulam Hassan Mir in the ‘scam’, Beigh said, since he (Mir) was in the cabinet from Congress quota therefore it would be wise to wait and see how things unfold.

“We should not jump the gun in haste. Let the probe come out first, because this is very serious matter and any assumptions would make the things more worse.”Beigh told KNS. He however said that even congress would be worried by the revelations but given the sensitiveness of the matter; they may not be willing to express their concern in public.

Regarding congress demand of holding the Coordination committee meet twice a month, Beigh said that CCC is headed by the congress state President Prof. Saif ud din Soz and it is his prerogative to convene the meetings.

“It is Soz’s jurisdiction to call the meetings. He may call it thrice a month or even four times a month, what has NC to do with it.” Beigh said.

Beig also defended Party’s Additional Gen. Secretary Dr. Mustafa Kamal and said that the rule should be applicable to both the parties in the coalition.

“We are in coalition government. The rule should therefore apply for both the parties.” Beig said, when asked to comment on the Congress demand of stopping Kamal from issuing anti- congress statements.
