NC Demands Waiver in Artisan Loan in Srinagar

National Conference Friday demanded waiver in loan granted to Srinagar based Artisans.

Political secretary to Working president National conference Omar Abdullah, Tanvir Sadiq today visited various areas of Zadibal, Anchar, Nowshera, Dal and Botakadal and interacted with various section of people, a party statement said this evening.

Calling the artisans the backbone of trade in Kashmir, Tanvir said, “the floods have totally devastated them & they have lost everything. It becomes the states obligation to ensure that the loan are waived immediately.”

“Omar Abdullah government granted loan to artisans as part of a special scheme,  to boost small-time paper machine units but 2014 floods shattered the dreams when their houses were devastated in the floods,” said Tanvir adding, “The poor artisans whose dwellings and craft units were devastated in the floods are struggling for survival.”

“At a time when thousands of artisans are finding it hard to earn two square meals a day for their family the bank authorities are threatening them to pay instalments,” said Tanvir. “No artisan will encourage his/ her son or daughter to become an artist. As they are facing a life or death situation, they are unable to pay back the loan,” said Tanvir demanding waiving the outstanding loan amounts in Srinagar which artisans owe to the banks immediately.”

Stressing the crucial role artisans play in trade, tourism and Business, he said the government can’t play with their lives “they can’t play politics with their future”.
