Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a movement which restored dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Friday said that party has revived peoples’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions.

“The Biggest achievement of PDP was restoring peoples’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions. Unlike other parts of the country, the taste of democracy was denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir because National Conference (NC) had never allowed democratic institutions to be flourished in the state”, said Mufti.

Addressing meeting of senior party activists from Reasi, Gool, Arnas, and Mahore areas, Mufti said that it was during PDP led regime that common masses had connected themselves with the government and governance consciousness was generated among people of Jammu and Kashmir and common masses had a taste of good governance.

Mufti mentioned that PDP-led regime had brought transparency and accountability in the governance by strengthening democratic institutions in the state.

“More than 70,000 youth were appointed as teachers under Rebar-e-Talim (ReT) scheme and more than 30,000 Anganwari workers were also appointed in total transparent manner,” he said.

Mufti regretted that the present regime headed by NC has miserably failed to carry forward the process of peace and development which was initiated by the previous PDP led regime in the state.

“Through its visionary policies, the previous PDP led regime had inculcated a sense of security among all citizens and created an atmosphere for initiating developmental activities in the state,” said Mufti.

Accusing present government of reversing process of peace and development, Mufti said, “what to say of further consolidating the re conciliatory and peace initiatives made by the PDP led government, this coalition regime has even reversed by the whole process through its oppressive measures”, he regretted.

Reiterating resolve of the PDP to restore lasting peace in the region without compromising with the dignity and honour of the people of the state, he said that policies and programmes of the party were guided by the wishes and aspirations of the people of this region.

He said that during the regime of PDP various steps were taken for the economic development of the state while mentioning towards construction of Mugal road. He said this road would be proved as a path of growth and economic development in both sides of Pir Panchal.

He said that Self-Rule proposal of PDP was aimed at fulfilling democratic and political urges of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as this document was prepared by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the state.

“Socio-economic growth of the state has been restricted after the partition due to plugging of all routes connecting Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the world”, he observed and maintained that his party’s proposal suggest opening of all traditional trade routes for the economic growth of this region.

Pointing towards on-going across LoC trade, he said that it was all due to the efforts of PDP that this trade was started and this process has boosted economic activities in both sides of LoC. He, however, regretted that present government headed by NC has failed to further facilitate the cross LoC trade.

“As regions and sub-regions are equal stakeholder in the peace and development of the state, the Self-Rule proposal of the party stands for economically and politically powering all regions of the state”, he said.
