SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday denounced what they termed as the high-handed approach of the administration towards street vendors who were forcefully removed, and their merchandise allegedly thrown all over the road and also against Chairperson Municipal Council Sopore, Masarat Kar.

Taking strong exception against the alleged harassment of MC Sopore Chairperson Masarat Kar, Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said that Masarat Kar was protesting peacefully along with others to highlight the injustice being meted out to the hawkers and ‘housing for all’ beneficiaries.

“Masarat Kar has been vociferous about the plight of hawkers, who eke out their living by selling petty merchandise on road sides. She has been agitating against the arbitrary decision of the district administration to remove the hawkers from roads without any proper rehabilitation plan,” he said.

He further added that the chairperson has further raised the anomalies in the housing for all scheme, impressing upon the concerned to update the list of beneficiaries, so that the benefit of the scheme reaches to a wider population as the funds for the same are amply available.

Imran while denouncing the high-handedness against a people’s representative said, “It is deplorable how a public representative is manhandled for raising public issues.”

He demanded that the erring officials be dealt with sternly for undermining a public representative. He also sought redressal of all the concerns raised by the chairperson regarding housing beneficiaries and street hawkers forthwith.
