Terming politics as his passion and aim to serve the downtrodden of the troubled land, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mohammad Khurshid Alam Thursday strongly refuted the reports that he used any political podium for his personal gains.

As per a statement Alam “while taking jibe at the elements that at present are hell-bent upon creating chaos into the minds of the troubled people of Kashmir through the malicious and pseudo revelations, has stated that he as person always strived for the rights of the employees of Jammu and Kashmir and that history stands testimony to the fact that he never took any mileage from politics.”

“Show me a single incident wherein I have used any political stage of any political party whether of the mainstream or of the separatist camp wherein I have served my goals,” said Alam.

He maintained further that the employees of the state choose him as their leader and to end their issues and woes became the major concern of his life. “It was the hardships faced by the employees that compelled him to represent their just voice.”

He stated that in 1973 he joined the ‘Government servants Federation’ led by Sardar Mushtaq Khan. In 1984, Food Employees Association elected him as president. In 1988-89- Employees and Workers Confederation elected him as senior vice- president that was then headed by Ghulam Hassan Asmi. “In 1994, I was elected as president of the same association and then an amalgam of the employees’ association came into existence in which I worked as a president and strived for the common cause of the government employees.”

Alam said that National Conference is leaving no stone unturned to level allegations against him and that while failing to do so, the paid agents of the party are being used to serve the purpose. “My life is an open book. People know me since the love and affection of employees choose me a leader. I was there for the common cause, I am here for the common cause, come what may, I will continue to strive for the rights of the state employees and for the downtrodden.”

The former trade union leader said, “The elements that are being hired by NC to instigate false propaganda against the just leadership of Kashmir must be asked to reveal their credentials as they changed their gods as people change clothes.”

Pertinently, JKLF chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik had a day before issued a list of main stream leaders and alleged that they had used the resistance movement as a “launching pad” for their political career. Malik had named many people like Khurshid Alam.
