Unprecedented security in Kashmir ahead of PMs visit

A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, unprecedented security arrangements have been put in place across Jammu and Kashmir. More than 2,300 policemen and paramilitary men have been deployed from Srinagar to Uri.

Roadside frisking has been intensified in the summer capital, with more check points being erected along the main roads.

Nakas have been put on alert and people are being frisked while as all kinds of vehicles are being thoroughly checked in Srinagar and south Kashmir areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the state on July 4. Sources said that Special Protection Group (SPG) commandos will handle the inner security ring of the Prime minister at the venue in the border region of Uri. An eight-member SPG team has reached the Valley on Tuesday and visited Uri, where Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the 240 MW Uri-II power project.

The army has taken independent charge of security in the extreme outer ring to cover the high altitude places and other communication lines towards the venue.

Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a hydro-power project in the border town of Uri in the Valley.
