SRINAGAR: The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday expressed hope that Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi would reconsider his decision to resign, saying his departure would deprive Jammu and Kashmir of an important voice advocating the restoration of Article 370 in Parliament.

NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said Ruhullah had made a significant contribution to the party and expressed confidence that he could review his decision.
Speaking to reporters, Dar said the Srinagar MP had held an important position within the party and suggested that he might not enjoy a similar standing elsewhere.
Dar said the NC had wanted Ruhullah to continue in Parliament and raise the demand for the restoration of Article 370, adding that his absence would be felt on the issue.
Defending the Omar Abdullah-led government’s position, the NC spokesperson said the party had consistently raised the issues of special status and statehood through resolutions and other platforms.
He also expressed confidence that differences with party MLA Gul would be resolved through dialogue, saying the leadership was aware of his concerns.
