SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Sharma on Saturday alleged that the National Conference (NC) is “on a ventilator” due to internal “disease” and warned that any organisational expansion would result in a vertical split within the party.

Sharma claimed that a few individuals tasked with speaking against the BJP were responsible for what he described as the party’s internal decline. He linked recent protests at the NC headquarters, Nawai-e-Subah, to what he termed a deepening internal crisis.
“Whatever happened at the NC headquarters is because of those who have been assigned the duty to speak against us. That is the reason for this internal problem,” he said.
Sharma further asserted that the situation within the party was beyond repair. “If they carry out even a small expansion, there will be two factions. The National Conference will split into two parts. The damage is so deep that there is no remedy,” he said.
Drawing a parallel with the Shiv Sena split, he added that internal divisions had already weakened the party structure. “The Shiv Sena split was their own doing. No matter how much they try, the organisation is already fractured. There is a major crack, and it may collapse at any time,” Sharma said.
He, however, clarified that the BJP would not intervene in the matter. “We do not believe in interference,” he added. (KNS)
